ISLA is a small app for people who dig for music. We collect what we need to make ISLA work and improve it. We don't sell your personal data, and ISLA does not use your data for advertising or to track you across other apps and websites.
What we collect
Your account. Your email address, which we use to sign you in with a one-time link, your username, and any profile details you choose to add, such as a display name, city or avatar.
What you add to ISLA. Records in your collection, posts, finds, photos, and the shops, people and labels you follow. Some of this information is meant to be shared with other people on ISLA, depending on how you use the app.
Record recognition and AI. When you ask ISLA to identify a record or give you an insight about music, relevant information — such as a photo of a record sleeve, record information and the context needed to answer your request — may be sent to Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic processes this information to provide the result. Data submitted through Anthropic's commercial API is not used to train its models by default. Anthropic may retain API inputs and outputs for a limited period in accordance with its commercial data-retention policy.
Location. If you allow location access, ISLA uses your location to show where you are in relation to record shops. We do not use your location to build a history of where you have been.
Technical information. We may process basic technical information needed to keep ISLA working and secure, such as a device identifier, authentication information and error information. If the app crashes, a crash report may contain technical details and information that allows us to identify the affected account so we can investigate the problem.
Why we use your data
We use your information to:
- create and maintain your ISLA account;
- provide collections, posts, follows and other social features;
- recognise records and generate music insights;
- show relevant record shops and map features;
- send login and account-related emails;
- keep ISLA secure and prevent abuse; and
- diagnose errors and improve the reliability of the app.
We process this information where it is necessary to provide ISLA to you, where you have given us permission — for example for location or photo access — or where we have a legitimate interest in keeping ISLA secure and functioning properly.
Services we rely on
We use a small number of service providers to operate ISLA:
- DigitalOcean — application and database hosting. Our primary hosting region is Frankfurt, Germany.
- Anthropic (Claude) — record recognition and AI-generated music insights.
- Sentry — crash and error reporting.
- Resend — sign-in and account emails.
- YouTube — audio and video playback. When you play YouTube content, information may be processed by Google under Google's own privacy terms.
Some of these providers operate outside the European Economic Area. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we use the safeguards required under applicable data-protection law.
How long we keep data
We keep your account and the content you add for as long as you have an ISLA account.
Technical logs and crash information are kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for security and troubleshooting.
Information sent to third-party services may also be retained by those services for the periods described in their applicable privacy terms.
When you delete your ISLA account, we delete or anonymise the personal information associated with it unless we are legally required to retain something for longer.
Your data, your call
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your personal data;
- correct information about you;
- delete your account and personal data;
- restrict or object to certain processing; or
- provide your data in a portable format where applicable.
You can delete your account from within ISLA (Settings → Delete account). This deletes your account and the content associated with it, including your collection, posts and uploaded photos, except where we are legally required to retain information.
